Monthly Meeting Notes

November 4, 2009

 

The meeting was opened with a prayer and the pledge by our Lodge Chaplain Scotty Davis.  The next regular scheduled Lodge meeting is Wednesday December 2nd at 5:00 pm.  Brother Jackson won the attendance prize of $50.00.  Many thanks to all of the businesses that continue to support our lodge.  Members enjoyed a meatloaf dinner prepared by the FOPA during the meeting.

Lodge Business

Fee's for use of the lodge during 2010 will be as follows:  Members - $50 p/event,  Non-Members $100 p/event.  This increase is in response to higher utility and other maintenance costs.

All members not current with their due's have been suspended from the lodge.  Suspended members no longer have legal or life insurance coverage.

Some members are not keeping their beneficiaries for their life insurance up to date.  Benefits will be rejected without a proper beneficiary designation.

In the future all members wishing to apply for a Life Membership (retired & a member 20+ years)  must request it in writing.  All members who wish to know how long they have been a member can go to the national website at www.fop.net.   You can go to the "Members Only" area and apply for access.  Once approved you should find a link to your membership information, including the ability to change your address information.

Bylaws Committee:

Clarification was provided on how members can make changes to the local by laws

Legal Committee:

Members heard a presentation from a brother who has a certification issue with the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council.  It appears the matter has been settled successfully. 
(Please note it is critical all members make sure the Peace Officers Standards and Training Council has your current address.)

Members heard a presentation on an upcoming matter involving an administrative suspension of a brother.  Once confirmed the matter will be handled by a lodge attorney.

Members "do not" need the approval of the legal committee if you are involved in a critical / use of force incident.  The member or his representative holds sole responsibility for contacting one of our four attorney's should the need arise.

If you are in need of an attorney for any other purpose a member of the Legal Committee must be called before contacting an attorney. If you do not clear the contact of an attorney through the Legal Committee the Lodge will not pay for the legal services.
