Monthly Meeting Notes

October 3, 2007

The next regular scheduled Lodge meeting is Wednesday, November 7th at 4:30pm.  Seven Officers and Twelve members were present for the October meeting.  The session was opened with a prayer and the pledge by Brother David Stone.  State FOP President Carlton Stallings was present and swore in the new executive board.  Many thanks to the FOPA for serving a spaghetti dinner.  Brother Billy Ray Blocker won the $50 attendance award.

Lodge Business

Those who have not paid their 2007 dues have been purged from the membership rolls.

Reminder at the July meeting membership voted to continue providing a lodge attorney for critical incidents and administrative actions.  Caps of $5,000 for critical incidents and $2,500 for administrative actions per member/ per incident were voted on and accepted by the membership.  Brochures have been distributed with the information.

Paperwork has been submitted to our new accountant.  Hopefully, we will be in full compliance with the IRS soon.

All members are strongly encouraged to update their beneficiary form yearly.  Recently a member passed away and the beneficiary form on file was from many years ago and did not list anyone.  Unfortunately, our insurance company cannot pay the claim.

Susan Mena from Cheatham Hill Memorial Park was presented a plaque from the FOP & FOPA for her dedication and support of the Cobb County Police Officers Memorial each May.

An overview of changes to the Cobb County Retirement was discussed.

Membership voted to enhance and update our lodge attorney web page to include more information on each individual attorney and the services they offer.

Florida Committee 2007:

Fifty folks attended and had a great time.  Check out the photo gallery.

Shop with a Cop Golf Tournament:

This years Shop with a Cop Golf Tournament raised in excess of $22,000.  Many thanks to all of our sponsors and supporters for making this an outstanding event.

Members "do not" need the approval of the legal committee if you are involved in a critical / use of force incident.  The member or his representative holds sole responsibility for contacting one of our four attorney's should the need arise.

If you are in need of an attorney for any other purpose a member of the Legal Committee must be called before contacting an attorney. If you do not clear the contact of an attorney through the Legal Committee the Lodge will not pay for the legal services.
